Here are some of the pledges that grew on our tree at Sheffield Now’s launch event!
The launch event was a great way to get everybody who could be involved in the future of this project in the same room talking about the prospect of an architecture centre for Sheffield. These pledges are proof of the interest that already exists in the city for an architecture centre and is also a guarantee that the project will continue.
We are arranging a meeting for all of the pledgers to attend where they can discuss the future of Sheffield Now! and the possible next steps towards an architecture centre for Sheffield!

Another way we attempted to engage people was with the use of (classy) Sheffield post cards.
They were handed out pre-addressed and stamped; we asked everyone willing to accept one to tell us about their Sheffield. As with the shed the outcome reactions were diverse but they still proved to be a creative method capable of returning interesting feedback:

Last Wednesday we asked people in the street to tell us about their Sheffield by writing on our mobile red shed. The feedback was very diverse ranging from “Leeds sucks” to some quite poignant insights.
The shed demonstrated that the Sheffield people are more than willing to engage with creative methods of feedback.

So here is a pic of the exhibition we had running at the Workstation for the past week. From here we ran workshops and guided tours and displayed all the work produced by the children during our project.
And ofcourse on the Thursday we all had a big knees up and invited Sheffield’s finest to peruse our accomplishments. Our guests were then asked to make pledges to support the future of our organisation and the development of an Architecture Centre for Sheffo!
Exciting times. More to come…

It’s Official!!!
SheffieldNOW! will be launching the Architecture Centre for Sheffield at the mighty Workstation on Paternoster Row in Sheffield. ’Architecture Week’ will run from Monday 29th October to Thursday 1st November, culminating in an epic launch event from 6-8pm on the final night [to which you are all invited]!
During the week the team will be running various events including our incredibly successful guided architecture tours of the City, launching our fabulous new website and generally making a whole lot of noise about architecture and the built environment in the City we love (or hate, if you’ve seen our controversial T-shirts )!
See you all there x

Sheffield NOW! has been scratching beneath the surface with regards to the heritage of our fine University buildings, “whatever possessed them to build the Arts Tower?” I hear you cry, “…and what’s the Paternoster all about?!” Well, the University has answered all those questions and more in a book produced for the Centenary celebrations, entitled ‘Steel City Scholars’ by Helen Mathers. We will be using it to field off pesky questions during our pilot walks this week, here are some choice excerpts…
The architecture department pre-Arts Tower… in yet another ivory tower, this time at Firth Court.
The original development proposals for the extension of the University, way back in 1953.
And ofcourse the winning entry, our beloved Arts Tower, under construction. (Images courtesy of Sheffield University, I think!)
